  POSITION AND OBSERVER. ON THE WORKS OF EIJA-LIISA AHTILA AND THE BERLIN ART SCENE A TALK BETWEEN TIMO MIETTINEN AND KRIST GRUIJTHUIJSEN

  With Ecologies of Drama, Salon Dahlmann presents one of Finlands most well-known artists, Eija-Liisa Ahtila. This is the first solo presentation of Ahtila’s work in Berlin since 2000, when the artist had an exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie. In this conversation, we want to trace the scope of her work – from questions of identity and interpersonal relations to the representation of nature and a recent interest in non-anthropocentric perspectives. And we want to talk about the changing context for such an exhibition here in Berlin: What is the relationship between galleries, institutions and private-run spaces such as Salon Dahlmann nowadays? And what about Berlin's role as an art capital?

  Krist Gruijthuijsen (*1980, NL) is a curator and director of KW Institute for Contemporary Art since July 2016. Between 2012 and 2016 he was artistic director of Kunstverein Graz, Austria, and is one of the founding directors of Kunstverein Amsterdam. In the past ten years, he realized numerous exhibitions and projects.
  Dominikus Müller (*1978, DE) is a freelance writer living in Berlin. Until 2016 he was chief editor of the bilingual art magazine frieze d/e.
